The GE THED136040 is a 40A, 3-pole E150-frame molded case circuit breaker with bolt-on mounting and high interrupting capacity, rated 600VAC for GE A-Series and Spectra Series panelboards.

The THED is the high-interrupting member of GE's E150 family: where the standard TED tops out at 18kA, the THED is rated 65kA at 240VAC and 25kA at 480VAC. That extra margin is what you need close to the service entrance or downstream of a large transformer, where available fault current climbs above what a standard-interrupting device can safely clear. Protection is fixed thermal-magnetic with Long-Time and Instantaneous (LI) functions. Quick-make/quick-break contacts, a trip-free mechanism, and common trip across all three poles round out the design, and TCAL12 load lugs are included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the THED136040 and the TED136040?

Interrupting capacity. The THED is rated 65kA at 240VAC and 25kA at 480VAC; the standard TED is 18kA. Both share the same E150 frame, bolt-on mounting, and dimensions, so the THED is a direct upgrade when fault current exceeds the TED's rating.

What is the interrupting rating of the THED136040?

65kA at 240VAC, 25kA at 480VAC, 18kA at 600VAC, and 10kA at 250VDC and 500VDC.

Where would I need a high-interrupting breaker like the THED?

Near the service entrance or downstream of a large transformer, where the available short-circuit current calculated in your fault study exceeds the interrupting rating of a standard-interrupting device.

What does the H in THED stand for?

High interrupting. GE inserts the H into the base TED designation to identify the higher-AIC variant of the same E150 frame.

Are lugs included with the THED136040?

Yes. TCAL12 load lugs ship with the breaker and accept #14–3 AWG copper or #12–1 AWG aluminum conductors.

Can the THED136040 be reverse fed?

Yes. Reverse feed is permitted with no line/load marking restriction under UL 489.

Is the 40A trip rating adjustable?

No. The trip unit is fixed and non-interchangeable.

Is the THED136040 UL listed?

Yes. It is UL 489 listed, CSA certified to C22.2 No. 5.1, and both HACR and HID rated.
